Sauze d'Oulx Guide

Interestingly you will need to make the last few hundred metres of your journey to this resort on foot because the local authorities have outlawed coaches to preserve the peace and quiet of its small streets, although luggage will be handled for you so that you are not overburdened.

Nightlife

Sauze d’Oulx is the ski resort that never sleeps. With pristine slopes begging to be conquered during the day and a vibrant array of entertainment on offer all night, you will have to catch what little shut-eye you can in between.

The main nightclub is called Banditos and it is a popular haunt for many of the visiting skiers who want to shake off the strains of the day to some thumping beats. Most people choose to commence their evening at one of the many bars and the Derby Bar or the Queen’s Lounge are always a good place to kick things off with a bang.

Not every bar is used as a preliminary watering hole before the club and a more chilled drink can be found at the suitably named Paddy’s.

Activities

Because Sauze d’Oulx is located in such a perfect position it is easy to take day trips to see Milan or Juventus play fast paced football. Of course non-fans can take the opportunity to shop in some of the world’s most exclusive retail outlets whilst the games are on.

If you want to get some shopping done without leaving the resort then you will be pleased to hear that there is a market that is set up within easy walking distance on a weekly basis. This is great if you want to pick up some local produce and drink in the atmosphere of the resort.

You can drift further into a state of relaxation if you visit the resort’s Wellness Spa, which will help to untangle the stress in both your body and mind. At the other end of the scale is the Skidoo trip.

Two adults can hop onto a skidoo and take the tour of the local mountains without being restricted to using ski lifts and these motorised monsters can really help to change the pace of your skiing holiday.

For the ultimate adrenaline rush it is advisable to check out the Olympic Bobsleigh run which is a ride like no other. It only takes a minute to get from the top to the bottom, but you will never experience G-force such as this outside of a fighter jet. The kids can be kept busy in the Games Hall, where there is all kinds of electronic and sporting entertainment to consume.

Eating Out

Pizza is virtually the national dish of Italy and there are a number of pizzerias in Sauze d’Oulx with a main meal starting at six Euros. A full three course meal is only around ten Euros more expensive than this, so you can get great value nosh throughout your stay.

If you are looking for something that is a little more high class and gastronomically engaging then the Old Inn is the restaurant for superior victuals. For a full-blown ten course meal and a broad selection of wines, Cantun del Barbabuc should be your restaurant of choice.

Other restaurants diverge from local Italian cuisine in favour of various other international menus, with Chinese and Mexican food available. You can even get a full English breakfast from Max Cafe, although this kind of meal might weigh a little heavy on your stomach if you are spending a long day out on the slopes.

Sauze d’Oulx Ski Rating

This resort gets five stars for intermediates and four for snowboarders, which means there is a good selection of fairly tricky slopes to take on if you have a modicum of prior experience. Beginners and experts can benefit from a three star rating apiece, so there really is a slope for people of all abilities at Sauze d’Oulx.

Sauze d’Oulx is definitely deserving of its position amongst the best and most respected ski resorts in Italy and although it has slopes that are as good as any of its alternatives, it is the presence of unmatched facilities and extra activities which make it suitable for repeat visits.
