Geilo is a beautiful, traditional resort which has been popular with skiers since the early 1900′s, and although accommodations and bars and restaurants have certainly moved with the times, the general feel of the resort is charming and traditional.

Skiing in Geilo is ideal for beginners and families, with it short transfer from Airport to Resort and its choice of wide cruisy nursery slopes and it tree lines blues once you have built up confidence, not to mention their award winning ski school offering fantastic English Speaking instructors.

Families will love Geilo, the hotels and resort offer so many facilities for children, and the ski school have the most wonderful kiddies crèche and kindergarten which offer a huge array of activities and fun times.

Intermediates will enjoy Geilo, there are plenty reds and blues, beautiful tree lined runs offering some long runs and steep runs and some excellent runs fro carving. With over 40 kilometres of piste to choose from and some excellent off piste opportunities too. Instructors can offers some exciting cross country off piste tours, a must for the more confident amongst you.

Advanced runs here are a little more limited, there is a handful of steep blacks and a couple of mogul runs, but the advanced amongst you will probably enjoy the off piste options.

Snow boarders will enjoy Geilo, there’s been a recent addition of a snow park and half pipe and the wide steep runs of Geilo make for lots of boarding fun.

Apres Ski in Geilo is generally quiet during the week, based around traditional village pubs and bars and a small selection of restaurants offering traditional food, but on a weekend, it really comes to life, with live music bands and a nightclub. Many locals come out to play on a weekend and things certainly liven up.

Non ski opportunities in Geilo are massive, try your hand at husky safaris, snow mobile safaris (you’ll need a driving licence) or ice fishing, tree top walking. There’s also a cinema, and ice rink and a spa centre. Plenty of tours of the surrounding fjords and lakes.

The resort of Geilo is a perfect all round location, especially good for families, groups and beginners, with an abundance of non ski activities, and prices here can vary depending on the standard or board basis, but an average weeks self catering starts around £319 based on 4 sharing
